A singing competition for Napa County students ages 12 -17
January 20 - 21, 2024 @ NVC Performing Arts Center
For the Joy of Singing!
E & M Presents is gearing up for IDOL NV 24, Saturday, January 20 at 2pm (semi-finals) and Sunday, January 21, at 2pm (finals). Both events will take place at the Napa Valley College Performing Arts Center.
Winning prizes include: three-day passes to BottleRock Napa Valley and the inaugural two-day Festival La Onda, plus cash and gift cards. Tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite.com.
The original American Idol reality series was created by Simon Fuller and first aired in 2002. Based on the format of the British series, Pop Idol, the American version has become one of the most successful shows on television airing its 21st season in February 2023.
E & M Presents’ adaptation of Idol is based on three competitions produced under the auspices of the Napa Valley Opera House in 2007, 2009 and 2011. At the time, Executive/Artistic Director Evy Warshawski was looking for a way to bring the greater community into the venue via a showcase of talented teen singers from throughout Napa County.
One of those teens -- winner of the 2007 competition -- is Vintage grad Devon Hadsell, who will be flying home from New York City to perform as a special guest at the finals. (The Napa High Vocal Music Workshop will perform at the semis.)
Devon made her Broadway debut in 2018 in the original cast of Mean Girls the Musical and just closed in Some Like It Hot as part of the original Broadway cast.
“The NV IDOL competition helped me get to Broadway because it gave me a lot of confidence in my singing,” Hadsell said. “I was at a point in my life where I was mainly focused on dance, but I realized that I needed to keep both singing and dancing alive!”
“My advice for kids trying out is to try not to worry about the outcome. Just do it, have fun and use it as an opportunity to share your gifts with the world. Enjoy the entire journey and the new people you meet along the way. That’s what performing is all about.”
Final auditions will be held Sunday, January 7, 2-5pm, at Lucky Penny Productions, 1758 Industrial Way, #208, Napa. Kids ages 12-17 who reside in Napa County are eligible to participate. Applications and information can be found at EandMPresents.org or email evywar@gmail.com. 707-501-8567
