“Hilarious, awesome, incredible and amazing!”
These are just some of the adjectives used to describe two different family shows making their Napa premiere this month at the Napa Valley College Performing Arts Center. E & M Presents brings four of these performances, which will feature bubbles and magic crafted by two extraordinary performers, creating a full weekend of fun for audiences of all ages.
Accomplished Bubble Master March 25
Louis Pearl, who has perfected the art, power, science and pure fun of blowing bubbles, will take the stage first on Saturday, March 25. Pearl explores the breathtaking dynamics of bubbles, combining comedy and artistry with audience participation and spellbinding bubble tricks that keep kids of all ages mesmerized. As Fest Magazine wrote, “The range and beauty of the effects really has to be seen to be believed.”
From square bubbles, bubbles inside bubbles, fog-filled bubbles, giant bubbles, bubble volcanoes, tornadoes and trampolines, to people inside bubbles, Pearl’s show, “The Amazing Bubble Man,” will make audience members want to try these feats at home. Good luck! While they may look easy, it takes decades of practice and a “just right” soapy bubble mixture – plus puffs of air – to succeed.
One of the world’s leading “bubble-ologists,” Pearl began his bubbly journey in 1980 by making, demonstrating and selling a toy called the Bubble Trumpet on a street corner in Berkeley. Eventually, his toy company had 147 products with international manufacturing and distribution, but Pearl found that he preferred playing with the toys over selling them. He sold Tangent Toys in 2002, and has been touring the world since, performing hundreds of shows each year.
Amazing Magic Man March 26
The second show on Sunday, March 26 will star Max Darwin, who has earned the title of “The Amazing Max.” Known for his extraordinary skills as a magician, as well as his ability to entertain adults while keeping the little ones spellbound, Darwin’s high-energy, interactive show combines magic, comedy and ingenious sleight-of-hand. “His ability to astound is something to see,” penned The Huffington Post.
Darwin is also one of the most highly-sought magicians in the country. He can be seen in National Geographic Channel’s hit television series, “Brain Games,” and serves as the magic consultant for the television shows “Gotham” and “America’s Got Talent.” His private clients include notable celebrities such as Uma Thurman, Diana Ross, Ethan Hawke and Tommy Hilfiger. Darwin is also a recurring character on Amazon’s “Sneaky Pete,” starring Bryan Cranston.
“Kids are our most discerning audience members,” shared Evy Warshawski, who along with her husband Morrie formed E & M Presents in 2015. “So we’re very particular about what we bring to the stage for them to enjoy. Our ‘Amazing Weekend’ will both challenge and entertain, and who knows, an audience member just might be called to the stage for popping bubbles or assisting a sneaky magician!”
